MOSIER
MOSIER
Mosier is the perfect little town if your biking along the gorge and it is conveniently located along the basalt cliffs. With a population of 437, as the towns says: "small enough to make a difference." As you take the exit from the highway, you see a small road that takes you along the main drag of the town, showing off the town's many businesses. There are plenty of places to stop and get a cool beverage and enjoy the view of the cherry trees greeting you. You also see the beautiful Mosier community school. If you just take a moment to slow down and examine the historic buildings, like the Mosier valley post office (top right.) The town is just eight miles down the road from Hood River(a place which I hope to cover in a future post.) This town is one of the places in Oregon that truly make this state special, from it's views to its history to its great community.
This place has been getting a lot of attention in recent years, mostly because of it's location and tourists have been attracted to places on the Colombia gorge. If you visit this towns website, you will see how well managed it is with it's parks and public library being stated as highlights. If you lived in Mosier, I don't think you would be bored very often, it'd be great. The town has sort of an old fashion vibe as well as a town that will grow in the future. So if you want to visit Mosier now would be the time, because I seriously think it will become the next Hood River in the foreseeable future. This place is designed for the hiker, the biker, the traveler and the explorer, and that's why I think it's population will grow. For there are a growing number of Oregonians who want to whisk themselves away into the country and live biking and hiking among the ponderosas. Portland is growing bigger and bigger and hipper and hipper, so some(but not most) Portlanders feel that they have to get out and that Mosier is the right place for them to be.
In conclusion, next time your driving for a meeting in The Dalles or biking the gorge, remember to stop here, and say hi to the people in Mosier for me.
