YACHATS

YACHATS

Yachats is the greatest town on the Oregon coast. It started as a small village on the small bay. All my life it has been my second home. It's called the gem of the Oregon coast for a reason. It is such a center of culture, with so many people coming here and exploring the beautiful place. The Oregon coast highway slices right through the town like a machete. This makes almost all of the businesses centered around it. You are driving to visit your aunt who lives in Brookings and you are starving. You take in the smells of the various restaurants and see people smiling as they pack in at Ona and lick fresh ice cream from Toppers. And the brief afternoon sun of the summer months glows in the sky. I have spent hours strolling the backroads and looking at the rustic houses as you see the backs of buildings and find your self at the post office and journey into the quaint Yachats Public Library. You wander down the winding roads and stare at the beautiful ocean.
What makes Yachats truly special is it's people. You really get a mixed bag here, but what I tend to notice is the locals and business owners are very friendly and welcoming. You have progressive and liberal forces as well as conservative people here which makes it a true melting pot of ideas. The crime rate is very low, with virtually no crime, with only small property crimes and a little violent crime. Although both are below the state average. Each Sunday they hold a farmers market with many choice vendors. They also hold many music festivals and parades. If you love nature, there is a lot of nature trails and parks around Yachats, with the Cape Perpetua very close.
In conclusion, I think Yachats is truly the gem of the Oregon coast and it's great to see it getting more recognition for that.

  2. I love Yachats! I love to drive my Porsche Boxster down to this lovely hamlet. I can be found dining on mussels in a light cream sauce with a glass of dry Pinot Grigio. Or I love sampling brie cheese at the farmer's market. I'm thinking about buying of the historic buildings in the area and demolishing it to build a Five Guys.
