NEWPORT(5 BIG CITIES)
NEWPORT
Newport, at the very center of the Oregon coast. This city is cool special and important. There is nothing about Newport that makes the entire city amazing but there are some things that make it cool. It's like that grizzled old grandpa of yours who has sailed all his life and has a lot of stories to tell. It is a tourist center of the Oregon coast and has attractions like The Oregon Coast Aquarium and the Nye Beach shopping district. When you visit Newport you are overloaded with things to do. It's just kind of like that. But it's not perfect, it has problems, it has a substantial crime rate. But if you look past the problems of this city it really is great. The historic bay front is really great to just walk around from the various piers to undersea gardens, there are truly some great businesses.
Some would call Newport the heart and soul of the Oregon coast, I would call it the gut. Newport is tough and touristy dull and quirky. It is a perfect imbalance of a town. It has vibrant institutions and it is a great place to visit. If you visit there it will be great, but if you live there you see the dark side of it. It's urban decay and the formulaic houses that make your head spin and make you loathe the Oregon coast(I love it.) It is a true Oregon small city, it has charming qualities but it has deeper problems and flaws that are hard to uncover. Newport is the second most populated city on the Oregon coast(I think) and it is a really cool place. The largest city is well... let's save Coos bay for another day. I have good things to say about Newport Oregon but I also have bad things to say. I do think one thing though, it is well organized. It knows how to sell itself to tourists from out of state. This is crucial for a coastal town, because if you put your fishing line in the water with no bait, you're not going to catch anything. It just works that way with coastal towns too.
Newport offers everything up for everyone tourist wise and I commend it for that but I can't say that there isn't more than one layer to this place. You can't judge a place just by it's buildings or it's people or it's leaders. It's a combination of those things.
Is there something about Newport that I missed? Do you want me to write about your town? Tell me in the comments.
